Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!!

As those of you who were in attendance know, this week's meeting was an especially interesting one.  Our speakers were from the forensics team at DHS with PDG Mike Nailor as their coach.

President Alice called the meeting to order with the pledge and a moment of silence.  She read the quote of the day, appropriately about Sr. Patrick's Day.  She then welcomed members and guests and asked everyone to introduce themselves.  The happy dollars jar was then passed.

A few announcements followed:

The board meeting will be held Thursday, Mar. 19 at 5:30 at Country Grove.

Angela updated the group concerning the hosting of the GSE team scheduled to arrive on April 1.  The team will arrive in Philadelphia and be picked up and brought to Pine Barn Inn late on April 1.  Angela will be meeting them at noon the following day.  They will have a walking tour of Danville, touring the Montgomery House and Health South.  Dinner will be at Hunter's where they will be met and picked up by the Elysburg team.  From the 6th to the 11th they will be with the Bloomsburg/ Berwick clubs, then Hegins Valley View for 8 days, on to Milton for the rest break, then Lock Haven and other Clinton Co. clubs, then Muncy.  They will be leaving on April 30.

A service opportunity will be March 21 and March 28 from 9-12.  Heather sent a sign-up sheet around .  It is a cleanup at EOS, the therapeutic horseback riding facility.  Members are to bring rakes and gloves.  There will also be some inside work to be done. Lunch will be served.

Dody has prepared the ad for the District Conference brochure.  She will add the website address to the business card sized ad and submit it.

The meeting was turned over to Mike Nailor and his three students from the forensic team at the high school.  Nick, who is a senior, explained the forensic process, the various types of speaking that are involved and talked about what being on the team has done for him personally.  He introduced the other two members, Anna and Shawn, who are both freshmen.
Shawn presented his original oratory, which means that it is a speech he wrote himself.  His topic was traffic.  It was a humorous and entertaining 7 minute speech.  Anna's format was declamation, where you recite someone else's speech and make it your own.  Her choice was a Hillary Clinton speech which had been given originally in Denmark.  The key is to choose something that you believe in and can make your own. The forensic students have gone to many contests, including state and national levels.  Their speeches were followed by a question and answer session with club members.  I think we all agreed they are poised, confident and knowledgeable.

Reminders:  PETS is Mar. 21 at the High School.
RI presidential membership conference is Mar. 27-28 in Baltimore
District Conference is Apr. 24-26 at Split Rock Lodge
District Assembly is May 16 in Muncy.

The meeting closed with the 4 Way Test.
